Floor Tile and Mastic Removal in St. Louis Park

Typical cost in St. Louis Park

  • One bathroom or laundry floor, about 50 to 100 sq ft$1,150 – $2,800+
  • One kitchen or large room, about 150 to 300 sq ft$1,700 – $4,800+
  • Several rooms or a basement, about 500 to 1,000 sq ft$3,800 – $11,500+

Old 9-inch tile, sheet flooring and black mastic can each contain asbestos. We have every layer tested, then remove what comes back positive down to the subfloor. Tile is lifted whole where it lets go, and the pieces are bagged as they come up.

Minnesota once left flooring in smaller residential buildings out of its asbestos rules. For floor tile and sheeting in houses and buildings with four or fewer units, that ended on July 1, 2021. We take floor jobs across St. Louis Park, Golden Valley and Robbinsdale.

Floors we remove

Vinyl floor tile

Hand tools pry tile up whole. Sanding, grinding and chipping are off the table, because they break tile apart and turn it into regulated material.

Black adhesive

Mastic is sampled apart from the tile. The two can test differently, and the plan follows both results.

Sheet flooring

Sheet vinyl with a felt or paper backing is kept wet as it is cut into strips and bagged.

Covering it instead

MDH says intact asbestos flooring may be covered with a new floor. Flooring that is damaged or crumbling can release fibers and is a different case.

Planning by room

Each room brings its own questions.

Bathrooms

A toilet or vanity may have to come out first. Tell us who is handling the plumbing so the order works.

Kitchens

Tell us the longest stretch your family can go without a working kitchen, and we will plan the days to fit.

Basements and laundry rooms

Move appliances, rugs and storage off the floor. The stair opening is sealed with plastic for the job.
